Bakairí (bkq) Brazil Bakairí is spoken by approximately 950 people in the Mato Grosso Region of Brazil, in 9 or 10 villages. Other names/spellings for the language include Bacairí and Kurâ. It is classified as Carib, Southern, Xingu Basin. Speakers of Bakairí also use Portuguese. Less than 1% are literate in Bakairí; 15-25% are literate in Portuguese. There are Bible portions and a written grammar. The writing system is in Latin script.
