Day 7: The Errand That Changed Everything
Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:17–20 (NIV)
“Now Jesse said to his son David, ‘Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers, and hurry to their camp.’… Early in the morning, David left the flock in the care of a shepherd, loaded up and set out, as Jesse had directed.”
David’s assignment was bread and cheese. That’s it. His father told him to bring food to his brothers on the battlefield. It was an errand. The kind of task you’d give to someone you didn’t think had anything more important to do.
But notice what David does: he obeys immediately. He gets up early. He loads up. He goes. No attitude. No hesitation. No “Why do I have to do this? I’m supposed to be king.”
That simple act of obedience placed David exactly where God needed him. The errand that looked meaningless was the moment that positioned him for the most significant battle of his life.
God works like that. He uses small, ordinary acts of obedience to set up things you can’t see yet. The conversation you didn’t plan. The connection that came from showing up. The opportunity that appeared because you were faithful in something nobody noticed.
We want big moments. God uses small obedience. And the students who learn to say yes to the small stuff are the ones who end up standing in the right place at the right time.
Reflect: Can you think of a time when something small you did led to something unexpectedly significant?
Today: Say yes to the next thing someone asks you to do today, even if it feels beneath you. Obey without complaining and see where God takes it.
