Day 12: You’re Just a Kid
Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:33 (NIV)
“Saul replied, ‘You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a boy, and he has been a warrior from his youth.’”
Saul looked at David and saw a liability. A kid with no armor, no military training, no track record. “You’re only a boy.” That word “only” is doing a lot of work. It’s a limit. A ceiling. A way of saying, “You’re not enough for this.”
The world loves that word. You’re only a sophomore. You’re only from that neighborhood. You’re only average. You’re only a kid. It puts a cap on what people think you can do and who they think you can become.
David heard it and didn’t flinch. Not because he was arrogant, but because he knew something Saul didn’t. His confidence wasn’t in his own ability. It was in God’s track record.
David didn’t argue by listing his qualifications. He told his story. “God delivered me from the lion and the bear. He’ll deliver me from this.” That’s not self-confidence. That’s God-confidence. And there’s a massive difference.
You don’t have to prove to anyone that you’re enough. You just have to know that the God who’s been with you is still with you. Let your testimony speak louder than their assumptions.
Reflect: What’s a limit someone has put on you that you’ve started believing? What would God say about it?
Today: Replace one “I’m only” statement with one “But God” statement. Write it down. “I’m only ___, but God is ___.” Carry it with you.
