DAY 9 OF 20

Day 9: Small Things, Big Preparation

Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:34–37 (NIV)

“But David said to Saul, ‘Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it, and rescued the sheep from its mouth.… The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.’”

When Saul told David he couldn’t fight Goliath, David didn’t argue with insecurity or bravado. He pointed to evidence. Lions. Bears. Moments nobody saw except him and God.

Those fights in the field weren’t random. They were training. Every time David faced a predator alone, God was teaching him something: I’m with you. I’ve done this before. I’ll do it again.

David’s confidence didn’t come from himself. It came from remembering God’s faithfulness. He could face the giant because he’d already faced smaller battles and watched God show up every time.

Your past isn’t just your past. It’s your testimony. The hard things you’ve walked through, the moments you didn’t think you’d survive, the quiet victories nobody celebrated, God was building something in you through all of it.

When the next big challenge comes, and it will, you won’t face it from scratch. You’ll face it with a history of God’s faithfulness behind you. The lion and the bear came before the giant for a reason.

Reflect: What’s a “lion or bear” moment in your life where God showed up? How does remembering that strengthen your faith for what’s ahead?

Today: Write down two or three times God came through for you. Keep the list somewhere you’ll see it. Next time fear hits, read it.
