Day 5: Chosen Before You Were Ready
Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:7b (NIV)
“The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
David wasn’t ready to be king the day he was anointed. He was a teenager. He had zero political experience. He’d never led an army. By every human metric, he was unqualified.
But God didn’t choose David because he was ready. He chose him because his heart was available. And availability is what God works with.
We think we need to have everything figured out before God can use us. We think we need to be older, smarter, more experienced, more spiritual. But the pattern in Scripture is the opposite. God calls people before they’re ready and then walks with them through the process of becoming who He’s called them to be.
Here’s the gospel underneath David’s story. Jesus is the ultimate example of God choosing what the world rejects. He came as a baby, not a king. He grew up in a small town, not a capital. He died on a cross, not a throne. And through that upside-down story, He brought salvation to the world.
Because of Jesus, you’re no longer defined by the world’s assumptions. You’re defined by God’s declaration: chosen, loved, and set apart. Not because you proved yourself, but because He decided you were worth it.
So stop waiting until you feel qualified. God already chose you. Now walk in it.
Reflect: What are you waiting to “be ready” for that God might already be calling you into?
Today: Take one step today toward something you’ve been putting off because you don’t feel ready. Trust that God equips you as you go, not before you start.
