DAY 4 OF 20

Day 4: The Spirit Came

Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:13 (NIV)

“So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.”

David gets anointed in front of the same brothers who didn’t think he belonged in the room. The youngest. The forgotten one. Oil poured on his head while everyone watches.

But here’s what’s easy to miss: anointing in Scripture isn’t just a ceremony. It’s God setting someone apart for a specific purpose and empowering them with His Spirit to carry it out. David didn’t just receive a title. He received power.

And here’s the thing: after the anointing, David didn’t walk into a palace. He went back to the sheep. His circumstances didn’t change overnight. But he was different. The Spirit of God was on him.

When you put your faith in Jesus, the same thing happens. You receive the Holy Spirit. Not because you’ve earned it or because you look the part, but because God chose you and empowered you for His purpose.

That means you’re not running on your own strength. You’re not figuring out your calling by yourself. The same Spirit that rested on David lives in you. And He’s the one who gives you the power to do what God’s asking you to do.

Your calling isn’t about your talent. It’s about His Spirit working through you.

Reflect: Do you tend to rely on your own ability or on God’s Spirit when it comes to living out your faith? What’s the difference between the two?

Today: Before you start your day, pray this: “Holy Spirit, I can’t do this on my own. Lead me today.” Then walk into your day trusting that He will.
