The Lies We Believe
Most of us don't wake up feeling "fearfully and wonderfully made." We wake up to a feed full of people who look like they have their lives together. We go to school where everything feels like a test of whether we're enough. We hear constantly that our value depends on what we produce, how we look, or who wants us.
And at some point, we start believing things like:
- I'm only valuable if I'm successful
- I don't matter the way talented people do
- If people really knew me, they wouldn't stick around
- My mistakes are what define me
Those messages are loud. But the truth cuts through: your value was set before you were born. You didn't earn it. You can't lose it. You're made in God's image, which means your worth isn't up for debate.
Nothing you've done changes that. No failure, no embarrassment, no screwup. Nothing anyone's said about you or done to you changes it either. Your value isn't something that gets graded.
The world's going to keep trying to rank you and measure you. It'll tell you that your worth depends on your performance. But God says something else. He says you're His image bearer. That's not a title you earn. It's who you are.
When those messages come (and they will), you get to choose. Believe what the world says, or believe what God says. One's based on what changes every day. The other's based on who you actually are.
Question: What's one lie you've believed about yourself that contradicts what God says about you?
Practice: Write down one lie you've believed. Cross it out. Under it, write the truth: "I am made in God's image, and my value is secure."
