Discipline That Lasts
Athletes train for months, sometimes years, for a moment. A championship. A medal. A trophy. And then what? It sits on a shelf. It collects dust. Eventually, nobody remembers.
That's not to say those achievements don't matter. They do. But Paul's point is this: if people are willing to work that hard for something temporary, how much harder should we work for something eternal?
You're not training for a trophy. You're training for a life that honors God and reflects His goodness. That's a prize that doesn't fade.
And here's the part nobody talks about: discipline is boring. It's doing the same thing over and over when you don't feel like it. It's making choices that don't pay off immediately. It's waking up and deciding to do the right thing again, even when yesterday's effort didn't feel like it mattered.
But that's where growth happens. Not in the big moments. In the small, repetitive, unglamorous daily decisions to keep going.
You want to be healthy? Start small. Drink more water. Go for a walk. Get eight hours of sleep. Do it today. Do it tomorrow. Do it until it's not a decision anymore, just what you do.
This isn't about perfection. It's about progress. And progress takes time. The people who finish the race aren't the ones who sprint out of the gate and burn out. They're the ones who pace themselves and keep showing up.
So show up today. And tomorrow. And the day after that. That crown that lasts forever? It's built one boring, faithful day at a time.
Question: What's one small thing you can do consistently to take care of your body?
Practice: Set a reminder on your phone for one healthy habit (e.g., water, walking, or sleep). Do it every day this week.
