Rescued: God's Grace for the Hardest Parts of Your Story

DAY 3 OF 7

From Bad to Worse

“When Uriah’s wife [Bathsheba] heard that her husband Uriah was dead, she mourned for her husband.”
—2 Samuel 11:26 AMP

Have you ever whispered to yourself, “Surely it can’t get any worse than this,” only to be hit with more bad news?

Bathsheba’s world had already been turned upside down. She was taken by King David, conceived a child that was not her husband’s, and now she received word that Uriah, the man she had vowed her life to, was dead.

Her grief must have felt unbearable. Betrayal. Shame. Confusion. And now deep loss. Scripture tells us simply: “she mourned for her husband.” Her heart broke, and she allowed herself to weep.

Can I ask you something today? Have you ever given yourself permission to mourn the painful events of your past? For years, I buried my pain, hoping it would fade away. But pain that is buried alive only grows stronger.

Sister, it’s okay to cry. Cry for the little girl who wasn’t protected. Cry for the woman who wasn’t believed. Cry for the places in your life that still ache from what was stolen. Mourning does not make you weak—it makes space for God to enter the wound with His healing presence.

Ecclesiastes reminds us: “There is a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance” (Ecclesiastes 3:4 NIV). Grief is part of the journey, but it is not the end of the story.

Journal Prompt:

What pain from your past have you tried to bury instead of mourn? How might you give yourself permission to grieve today?

Prayer:

“Lord, I have carried wounds I never allowed myself to fully feel. Today, I give myself permission to mourn before You. Hold me in my grief, remind me that You see my tears, and bring comfort to the places of my heart that feel too heavy to bear. Amen."

About this Plan

Rescued: God's Grace for the Hardest Parts of Your Story

Rescued is a 7-day devotional written by Ginia Bishop, author of GRACE TO START OVER: YOU ARE WORTHY OF A NEW BEGINNING, for the woman who finds herself in a dark valley, carrying wounds she never asked for, and pain she can’t seem to shake. Like Bathsheba, maybe you’ve endured betrayal, loss, or moments that turned your world upside down. You’ve buried tears, questioned God, and wondered if He truly sees you. This plan reminds you that He does.
