Rescued: God's Grace for the Hardest Parts of Your StorySample

What Was Conceived
“The woman conceived; and she sent word and told David, ‘I am pregnant.’”
—2 Samuel 11:5 AMP
Can I ask you something deeply personal? What do you believe about yourself because of what happened to you? What did the pain of your past conceive within you: shame, fear, anger, or maybe the belief that you are unworthy of love?
For Bathsheba, the result of her encounter with David was visible: she conceived a child with a man who was not her husband, a man she had not chosen. Scripture doesn’t tell us her emotions in that moment, but can you imagine the weight on her heart and mind? The confusion, the fear, the grief of carrying something born out of brokenness?
Maybe you’ve been there too—overwhelmed by the memories of what happened to you. Unable to eat, or maybe numbing the pain in other ways. Flashbacks that won’t stop. Tears that seem endless. Questions that rise like waves: Where are You, God? Why me? Why this?
I’ve asked those same questions. The wounds from my childhood and young adulthood left me feeling abandoned and unloved by God. But here’s what I’ve learned—He is not afraid of our questions. He can handle our anger, our shame, and our disappointment. And more than that, He promises His nearness: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18 NIV).
Sister, what you carry does not define you. God’s presence meets you even here, in the pain, and He alone has the power to bring life, redemption, and rescue out of the darkest places.
Journal Prompt:
What has your past “conceived” in your heart: beliefs, emotions, or patterns, that God may be inviting you to surrender to Him today?
Prayer:
“Lord, You see the weight I carry from my past. You know the lies I’ve believed about myself. Today, I lay them at Your feet. Rescue me with Your truth. Heal the places in me that still ache, and remind me that I am seen, loved, and never forgotten by You. Amen."

About this Plan

Rescued is a 7-day devotional written by Ginia Bishop, author of GRACE TO START OVER: YOU ARE WORTHY OF A NEW BEGINNING, for the woman who finds herself in a dark valley, carrying wounds she never asked for, and pain she can’t seem to shake. Like Bathsheba, maybe you’ve endured betrayal, loss, or moments that turned your world upside down. You’ve buried tears, questioned God, and wondered if He truly sees you. This plan reminds you that He does.
