Walking in His Purpose: Finding Strength and Blessings in God’s CallSample

Exalting God's Name: Following Abram's Example
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’”
Abram’s heart was fixed on God, not on earthly possessions. He had just achieved a great victory, rescued his nephew Lot, and reclaimed all that had been taken. Yet, when the king of Sodom offered the spoils of war, he firmly refused. He wanted no one to claim credit for his prosperity except the Lord Himself.
Child of God, do we live with such conviction? Can anyone say they made you rich? Or do you, like Abram, acknowledge only the Lord as your provider? Abram’s trust was not in human hands but in the God of heaven and earth. Even in his success, he remained unwavering in his devotion.
Melchizedek, the priest of God Most High, blessed Abram, recognising that victory came from the Lord. In response, Abram gave a tenth of everything, acknowledging that all he had belonged to God. Yet, he turned it down when the king of Sodom offered him material wealth. What a powerful testimony!
Child of God, do you stand firm in such moments? How do you respond when temptations arise, when material gain is within reach but not aligned with God’s will? Abram’s example reminds us that our sufficiency is in Christ alone. The world may not understand our choices, but we must exalt God’s name above all else.
Yes, it may not seem easy. Family, friends, or colleagues may question why we refuse certain benefits. But our eyes must remain fixed on the One who owns the heavens and the earth! Just as Abram was blessed, so shall we be when we trust in the Lord, not in human provisions.
Prayer: Lord, for anything and everything, help me to look up to You and place my trust in Your hands. As Your children, we will be blessed like Abram. You are the one who delivers us from the hands of our enemies.
