Walking in His Purpose: Finding Strength and Blessings in God’s CallSample

Blessings Through Surrender: Walking in the Footsteps of Abram
The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”
When did God speak to Abram with such a powerful promise? It was after he willingly let go. A dispute arose between Abram’s herders and Lot’s. Tension could have escalated, but Abram, a man of peace, took the first step to resolve it. Instead of insisting on his rights as the elder, he said, “Let’s not have any quarrelling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers.” He humbly gave Lot the first choice of land, saying, “If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right.”
What a heart! A heart that sought peace over possession, faith over fear, and surrender over striving. Abram’s trust was not in the land but in the Lord. And what happened? As soon as Lot departed, God spoke! He expanded Abram’s vision and confirmed an everlasting inheritance. Abram gave up a portion, but God gave him everything!
Do we carry the same heart as Abram? Do we strive for peace in our relationships, especially within our families? Are we willing to let go, trusting that what God has for us is more significant than what we try to hold on to? So often, we cling to material things and money, status fearing loss. But God calls us to release and trust, for His plans are always better.
This truth has been evident in my own life. When I accepted Jesus at 21, He gave me the wisdom to let go of many things, which allowed me to extend kindness to my siblings. Whether it was jewellery, clothing, or material possessions, I learned to surrender. Even in marriage, I never sought property or wealth from my husband’s family, and that decision brought peace with my in-laws. I lived by Matthew 6:33: “Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.” There were moments when I could have claimed more, but I trusted God’s provision.
And He has been faithful! The blessings He poured into my life far exceeded anything I let go of. He lifted me, allowed me to travel to nations, and opened doors I never dreamed of. What He did for Abram, He still does today. Surrender is never loss in God’s kingdom; it is the pathway to abundance.
Prayer: Lord, give us hearts like Abram, willing to surrender anything that stands in the way of glorifying You. Help us live in peace with our family and others, trusting that You will provide all we need. We know that You will never leave us empty. Lord, I ask that You help me receive all the blessings You have in store for me and not miss out on Your perfect will by clinging to my preferences. Amen.
