Divine Guidance in Family Decision-Making

He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.

God’s promise to Abram was not a fleeting word but a divine covenant sealed through an intimate conversation. The Lord assured him:

• “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward” (V1)
• “I am the Lord who brought you out of Ur to give you this land to take possession of it.” (V7)
• “To your descendants, I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river Euphrates—the land of the Kenites, … and the Jebusites” (V18-21)

Yet, despite God’s explicit promise, Sarai, Abram’s wife, took matters into her own hands. She reasoned that Abram should have a child through her maidservant since she had no children, a decision born not of faith but of impatience.

Oh, what a mistake! What a misguided suggestion! What a hasty decision! Beloved, how do you build your home? Do your words encourage faith, or do they lead to confusion and compromise? The Scripture reminds us:

“A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.”

Where do your decisions come from? Do they align with God’s will, or are they driven by human reasoning, doubt, or fear? As a family, do you seek God’s direction or hastily follow ideas that seem logical but are not following His plan?

Child of God, are you simply agreeing with your spouse’s ideas without seeking the Lord’s guidance? Have you forgotten His promises over your life? God has assured blessings for your home. Do not allow misguided decisions to divert you from His divine path. Every family decision should be made at the prayer altar, aligning with His perfect will.

Prayer: May we never tread crooked paths while building our homes. Help us approach every significant decision with a moment of prayer and, if needed, fasting prayer so that our house may align with Your perfect will. Thus, we may receive all the blessings You have in store for us.
