Most scholars believe that the Apostle John who wrote the Gospel of John is the same author of these epistles. In 1 John the author talks about some important building blocks of the Christian life. He provided a description of God, how we are to walk and act, the benefit of such walking and acting, the way to forgiveness, and denying our sins. John had a first-hand knowledge of Jesus and was writing this letter to younger and newer believers while he himself was an old man.
