River Valley Church SOAP - Part 9Sample

Peter was one of the core 12 apostles who followed Jesus, and while his name was originally Simon, Jesus began calling him Peter (Petras in Greek, which means Rock). Peter was instrumental in beginning the early Church in Israel, but eventually began bringing the good news of the Kingdom of God to the broader Roman world. This letter is written decades into that journey by Silvanus (although commissioned by Peter) to churches in Asia Minor. After a greeting and a song of praise to God, the letter focuses on three key areas: Christians’ new identity as a part of the family of God; encouragement that their suffering is a witness to Jesus; and, then finally, linking their suffering to the future hope of the Kingdom of God.
