Life Hacks

DAY 2 OF 14

Not everyone realizes how powerful spoken words are. For some it might be ignorance to the power of their tongue, or it’s possible that other things just matter more. The Pharisees fill both categories. The Pharisees were religious leaders in Jesus’ time who thought keeping rules was the way to get to God. They thought if they followed Old Testament law, they’d be in Heaven and everyone else wouldn’t be. They valued the letter of the law more than Jesus’ fulfillment of the law. In this, they went against most of what Jesus stood for and tried to argue with Him. Quick word of advice - if you try to argue with Jesus, you’re going to lose. One rule to follow was what to eat and how to eat it. Because the Pharisees were so dedicated to the law, they ripped on the disciples for how they were eating. This sparked debates and arguments that had no posture of love in the interaction. Jesus, using the law that mattered so much to the Pharisees, quotes Solomon from the Old Testament, reminding them that the words coming from our mouths matter. They matter even more than what we put into our mouths. If we’re following the law, doing everything right, but not speaking in love or are being quick to argue, we’re actually doing it all wrong. How do your actions match your words?
