This Scripture is one of the most well-known verses for believers and unbelievers alike. We commonly find it on posters, lock screens, tattoos, T-shirts, and more. Ask almost anyone to name a Scripture, and this one is likely the one you’ll hear in response. But as Christians, we want this to be more than words quickly memorized and easily thrown around. We want this to remind us of what is true. We want this to be a reminder of the hope we have in Christ.

And guess what? It is! As humans, our fate in this world was sealed. We were destined for an eternity separate from God. The weight of our sins was too much for us to overcome on our own. But out of His great love for us, God sent His Son to the world to carry and pay for that weight for us. To choose to give His life for our sins on the cross. To make a way for us to be close to God, both on earth now and in the life beyond for eternity. This is the source of our hope. It’s the heart of our faith. And this is a story worth sharing!

The next time you come across this verse in everyday life or conversation, stop for a second. Let the words sink in and really hold weight. Ask God to let the hope of the passage sink into your heart.
