Forgiven and HealedSample

The Forgiving Father
Forgiveness and healing come together. They flow from the same heart of God. Psalm 103:2-3 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.”
Our Father is a forgiver. It is amazing how God does not keep a record of our sins or failures. King David said, “If thou, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?” (Psalm 130:3)
Some years ago I did a little research and found that from Genesis to Revelation, forgiveness is mentioned well over a hundred times. Isn’t that interesting? Yet as human beings, we are often tempted to be weighed down by our own flaws and weaknesses. We replay our mistakes in our minds. If we could see ourselves the way our heavenly Father sees us, we would understand that forgiveness is covenant backed.
In Isaiah 54:9-10, God swears He will not be angry with us. He says the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but His kindness will not depart, and His covenant of peace will not be removed. That is God giving His word. And His word is forever settled. (Psalm 119:89)
God forgave us, redeemed us and went further, to impute righteousness to us. Righteousness is a spiritual state of being that bequeaths authority and power to the believer. God gave that to us as a gift, not something we earn or merit. I bet he did that so people won’t strive to be better than each other in that regard as well. If we tried to earn righteousness by our works, we’d fall short.
Psalm 103 says He forgives and heals. Forgiveness and healing come together because both are benefits flowing from the same sacrifice, redemption. Since I am forgiven, I stand righteous. This is the heart of our forgiving Father.

About this Plan

Forgiveness and healing are not separate promises. They flow together from the same finished work of Christ. In this 7 day devotional, we trace the covenant thread from Isaiah to Galatians and see how redemption answers the curse of the law. Through Scripture, this plan establishes that sickness is not divine punishment and that righteousness has already been imputed through Christ. As we receive forgiveness fully, we are freed from guilt, legalism, and self accusation. As we release offence and extend grace, we walk in the liberty secured for us in redemption.
