What the Bible Says About Advent - 29 Days of Advent MeditationsSample

Day 4: Hope in the Coming Kingdom
- Verses:
- Isaiah 11:1–2: "A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse... The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him."
- Revelation 21:3–4: "God’s dwelling place is now among the people... He will wipe every tear from their eyes."
- Daniel 7:14: "His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away."
- Luke 1:32–33: "The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David... his kingdom will never end."
- Romans 15:12: "The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations."
- Reflection:
The hope of Advent points to a kingdom where Christ reigns in justice and peace. From Jesse’s line, a Savior emerged, promising an eternal kingdom where sorrow ends and God dwells with His people. This vision of a restored world fuels our hope, reminding us that history is moving toward Christ’s return. No matter the chaos in the world or even around us, we can hold fast to the promise of a kingdom that will never fade, where every tear is wiped away.
- Application:
- Imagine Christ’s coming kingdom—how does it shape your perspective on today’s challenges?
- Spend time visualizing the peace and justice described in these verses.
- This week, take one action that reflects this hope, such as serving someone in need or praying for global issues.
- Share this vision of hope with someone, perhaps through a discussion or a kind act, pointing them to the promise of Christ’s eternal reign.
- Prayer:
Lord, fill me with hope for Your coming kingdom, where all things will be made new. In Jesus' name.
About this Plan

These 29 daily devotionals, created by Dr. Walt Larimore, are structured around the four traditional pre-Christmas Advent candles—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love and one final devotion for the penultimate Christ candle. Each of the first four weeks focuses on one candle, with seven daily devotions exploring a specific aspect of that theme through Bible verses, a reflection, and a prayer prompt—then, of course, the final Christmas Eve or Christmas Day devotion. All Bible verses are quoted from the NIV, 2011.
