What the Bible Says About Advent - 29 Days of Advent Meditations

DAY 8 OF 29

Week 2: The Peace Candle – Christ as the Prince of Peace

The second Advent candle represents peace, symbolizing the reconciliation and tranquility Christ brings. This week’s devotions focus on the peace that comes through Christ.

Day 8: Peace Through Reconciliation

  • Verses:
    • Colossians 1:20: "And through him to reconcile to himself all things... by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."
    • Romans 5:1: "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
    • Ephesians 2:14: "For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one."
    • 2 Corinthians 5:18–19: "All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ."
    • Isaiah 53:5: "The punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
  • Reflection:

Through His sacrifice, Jesus bridged the chasm between humanity and God, offering forgiveness and peace that restores our relationship with Him. This reconciliation heals the divide caused by sin, bringing us into harmony with our Creator. The cross is the source of true peace, not just a feeling but a restored state of being with God. Advent reminds us that Christ’s blood was the cost of this peace, a gift that transforms our hearts and lives. This peace is both personal and cosmic, promising ultimate restoration.

  • Application:
    • Reflect on how Christ’s reconciliation has brought peace to your relationship with God.
    • Are there barriers in your life that hinder experiencing this peace?
    • This week, take time to confess any sins that disrupt your peace with God, embracing His forgiveness.
    • Extend this peace by reconciling with someone you’ve wronged or who has wronged you.
    • Share the message of Christ’s peace with someone, perhaps through a kind act or a conversation about His love.
  • Prayer:

Father, thank You for making peace with me through Your Son’s sacrifice on the cross. Help me live in that peace daily. In Jesus' name. Amen.

About this Plan

What the Bible Says About Advent - 29 Days of Advent Meditations

These 29 daily devotionals, created by Dr. Walt Larimore, are structured around the four traditional pre-Christmas Advent candles—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love and one final devotion for the penultimate Christ candle. Each of the first four weeks focuses on one candle, with seven daily devotions exploring a specific aspect of that theme through Bible verses, a reflection, and a prayer prompt—then, of course, the final Christmas Eve or Christmas Day devotion. All Bible verses are quoted from the NIV, 2011.
