What the Bible Says About Advent - 29 Days of Advent MeditationsSample

Week 4: The Love Candle – God’s Love Revealed in Christ
The fourth Advent candle represents love, celebrating God’s boundless love revealed in Jesus. This week’s devotions explore the depth of God’s love.
Day 22: Love in the Incarnation
- Verses:
- John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son."
- 1 John 4:9–10: "This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world."
- Philippians 2:7–8: "He made himself nothing... he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death."
- Romans 8:3: "God did this by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh."
- Galatians 4:4–5: "God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law."
- Reflection:
God’s love shines brightest in the Incarnation, as Jesus took on human form to redeem us. John 3:16 declares this sacrificial love, fulfilled in Christ’s humility (Philippians 2:7–8). 1 John 4:9–10 reveals God’s heart, sending His Son to atone for our sins. Romans 8:3 and Galatians 4:4–5 show Jesus entering our brokenness to bring redemption. Advent celebrates this love, which bridges the divine and human, inviting us to embrace and reflect the love that drove God to become one of us.
- Application:
- Reflect on how Jesus’ Incarnation reveals God’s love for you.
- Today, meditate on John 3:16, thanking God for His gift.
- Journal about a time you felt His love.
- Share this love by performing a selfless act, like helping a neighbor, mirroring Christ’s humility.
- Encourage someone with a note or conversation about God’s love, pointing them to Jesus.
- Pray daily for opportunities to reflect His incarnational love in your actions, letting it transform your relationships.
- Prayer:
Father, thank You for sending Jesus to show Your love. Help me live in that love. In Jesus' name. Amen.
About this Plan

These 29 daily devotionals, created by Dr. Walt Larimore, are structured around the four traditional pre-Christmas Advent candles—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love and one final devotion for the penultimate Christ candle. Each of the first four weeks focuses on one candle, with seven daily devotions exploring a specific aspect of that theme through Bible verses, a reflection, and a prayer prompt—then, of course, the final Christmas Eve or Christmas Day devotion. All Bible verses are quoted from the NIV, 2011.
