What the Bible Says About Advent - 29 Days of Advent MeditationsSample

Day 21: Joy in the Promise of Eternity
- Verses:
- Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes... no more death or mourning or crying or pain."
- Psalm 126:5–6: "Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy."
- John 16:22: "No one will take away your joy."
- Isaiah 51:11: "Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away."
- 1 Thessalonians 2:19–20: "For what is our hope, our joy... Is it not you?"
- Reflection:
The promise of eternity with Christ fills us with unshakable joy. Revelation 21:4 envisions a future without pain, where God wipes away every tear. Psalm 126:5–6 and Isaiah 51:11 promise joy overtaking sorrow, fulfilled in Christ’s eternal kingdom. John 16:22 assures us this joy is permanent. Advent points to this hope, reminding us that our trials are temporary, and our joy in Christ’s presence is eternal, inspiring us to live with expectation and gratitude for His everlasting promise.
- Application:
- How does the promise of eternity shape your perspective on today’s challenges?
- Today, meditate on Revelation 21:4, praying for eternal hope.
- Journal about how this promise brings joy.
- Share this hope with someone struggling, perhaps through a conversation about eternity or a kind act.
- Take one step, like volunteering, to reflect this joy, showing others the hope of Christ’s eternal kingdom through your actions and words.
- Prayer:
Lord, let the hope of eternity fuel my joy today and always. In Jesus' name. Amen.
About this Plan

These 29 daily devotionals, created by Dr. Walt Larimore, are structured around the four traditional pre-Christmas Advent candles—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love and one final devotion for the penultimate Christ candle. Each of the first four weeks focuses on one candle, with seven daily devotions exploring a specific aspect of that theme through Bible verses, a reflection, and a prayer prompt—then, of course, the final Christmas Eve or Christmas Day devotion. All Bible verses are quoted from the NIV, 2011.
