What the Bible Says About Advent - 29 Days of Advent Meditations

DAY 24 OF 29

Day 24: Love in Mercy

  • Verses:
    • Ephesians 2:4–5: "Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ."
    • Titus 3:5: "He saved us... because of his mercy."
    • Psalm 103:8: "The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love."
    • Lamentations 3:22: "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed."
    • Micah 7:18: "Who is a God like you, who pardons sin... because he delights in showing mercy?"
  • Reflection:

God’s love shines through His mercy, offering forgiveness and new life. Ephesians 2:4–5 reveals how His love makes us alive in Christ, while Titus 3:5 emphasizes salvation through mercy. Psalm 103:8 and Lamentations 3:22 show His compassionate, enduring love, and Micah 7:18 celebrates His delight in pardoning sin. Advent invites us to embrace this mercy, which restores us and calls us to extend forgiveness to others, reflecting God’s heart. This love, rooted in mercy, transforms our lives and relationships.

  • Application:
    • Reflect on a time God’s mercy brought you new life.
    • Today, pray Psalm 103:8 , thanking God for His compassion.
    • Journal about how His mercy has restored you.
    • Extend mercy to someone by forgiving a wrong or offering kindness.
    • Share this love with someone through a conversation about God’s forgiveness, encouraging them to seek His mercy.
    • Take one action, like helping someone in need, to reflect God’s merciful love in your community.
  • Prayer:

Merciful God, thank You for Your love that forgives and restores me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

About this Plan

What the Bible Says About Advent - 29 Days of Advent Meditations

These 29 daily devotionals, created by Dr. Walt Larimore, are structured around the four traditional pre-Christmas Advent candles—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love and one final devotion for the penultimate Christ candle. Each of the first four weeks focuses on one candle, with seven daily devotions exploring a specific aspect of that theme through Bible verses, a reflection, and a prayer prompt—then, of course, the final Christmas Eve or Christmas Day devotion. All Bible verses are quoted from the NIV, 2011.
