Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 88 OF 365

But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD (Joshua 24:15 NKJV).

Have you and your family made a commitment to serve the Lord together?

In today’s reading, Joshua, charged with leading Israel, recognizes his dual role as both a national and family leader. At a crucial moment, he addresses the people, urging them to make a choice: to follow either the gods of their ancestors or those of the Amorites. Yet, he declares unequivocally, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15 NKJV).

Joshua's declaration underscores the importance of family discipleship. Discipleship involves shaping others in the image of the teacher. In our New Testament reading, Jesus himself emphasizes this principle, stating, “A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40 NKJV). Also, great leaders correct flaws that they don’t want to pass down to the next generation. They remove the plank in their own eye and then instruct others how to live (Luke 6:41). Let us follow Joshua’s example, starting by making disciples in our own households.

Employment Point: Disciple your family and others with personal integrity.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
