Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 90 OF 365

But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised (Proverbs 31:30 NKJV).

Are you humbly serving the Lord?

In today’s reading, two women illustrate humble service to God: Deborah and the nameless woman from Luke 7.

Deborah, a judge and prophetess, boldly answered God's call to deliver Israel from oppression. She musters Barak to lead an army, and the Lord produces a miraculous victory by using a torrential downpour for their advantage (Judges 5:19–23). Her encouragement leads to Barak being named in the “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11:32.

In Luke’s Gospel, the unnamed woman humbled herself and demonstrated true service to the Lord. Despite the social barriers, she worshipped Jesus, showing reverence that the religious community had not demonstrated. Her continuous acts of devotion, depicted in Luke 7:38, revealed a heart surrendered to God.

Both women inspire us to serve God wholeheartedly, regardless of our circumstances. Their stories remind us that true worship involves courage, humility, and sacrificial love. May we be like these two faithful women, seeking to honor God with our lives.

Employment Point: Humble yourself to boldly serve the Lord.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
