Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 87 OF 365

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer (Philippians 4:6 NKJV).

Do you spend extended periods in prayer before making major decisions?

There is only one instance in the New Testament of an all-night prayer meeting, which is recorded in today’s passage found in Luke 6: "Now it came to pass in those days that He [Jesus] went out to the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God" (Luke 6:12 NKJV). This deliberate act highlights the importance of seeking the Father’s guidance, especially when facing vital choices.

Jesus understood the significance of His decision in selecting His successors, who would continue His mission of spreading the gospel to the ends of the earth. His example teaches us to dedicate time to seeking the Father’s will. What important decisions will you make in your life? Will you follow Jesus’ example and pray?

The result of Jesus’ prayer was the selection of 12 men who would later turn the world upside down, write eight books in the New Testament, and were responsible for the transformation of countless lives, underscoring the profound impact of seeking God's guidance through prayer.

Employment Point: Set aside enough time to pray on important matters.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
