Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year TwoSample

If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well (James 2:8 NKJV).
How do you know if you are given to partiality?
The sin of favoritism had seeped into both Ezekiel’s and James’ communities. James urged believers, “Do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ… with partiality” (James 2:1 NKJV). Showing favoritism—favoring the wealthy over the poor—was evil in God’s sight. In Ezekiel 22, God condemns Israel’s injustices, including “oppressing the stranger” (Ezekiel 22:7).
God calls us to love impartially, treating each person with dignity. Favoritism causes mankind to judge a person based on his appearance and not the content of his character.
Employment Point: Love your neighbor and display your impartiality.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
