Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year TwoSample

For whom the LORD loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives (Hebrews 12:6 NKJV).
Are we following the Father’s example with our children?
God’s heart broke over Israel’s choices to adopt detestable practices like child sacrifices, even after He called them His own. In Ezekiel 16, He grieves, “You took your sons and daughters, whom you bore to Me, and these you sacrificed… Were your acts of harlotry a small matter?” (Ezekiel 16:20–21 NKJV). His desire was for Israel to follow Him and set a godly example, reflecting His care, not imitating the world’s worst ways.
We’re reminded that as a Father, He lovingly disciplines His children (see Proverbs 3:12). Discipline, rooted in love and care, helps guide our children away from harm and toward Him. Let’s reflect the Father’s heart by guiding our children with love, truth, and compassion, just as He does with us.
Employment Point: Imitate the Father’s love for His children by disciplining and instructing your own in His ways.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
