Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 319 OF 365

For he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God (Hebrews 11:10 NKJV).

Which city will you live for?

What city are we truly living for? The Israelites in Ezekiel’s day adopted the ways of the people around them, putting earthly pursuits over God’s commands. The prophet chides the shortsighted Israelites, “for you have not walked in My statutes nor executed My judgments, but have done according to the customs of the Gentiles which are all around you” (Ezekiel 11:12 NKJV).

Hebrews 11 speaks of Abraham, who looked for a city with foundations, an eternal home with God. Abraham’s faith kept him anchored, looking forward to what God promised.

As Christians, our true citizenship isn’t here; it’s in heaven. We’re called to live for a world that’s yet to come, keeping our faith in what’s unshakable.

Employment Point: Keep your eyes of faith on the city with foundations.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
