Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 114 OF 365

Then the LORD sent Nathan to David (2 Samuel 12:1 NKJV).

How well do you represent the One who sent you as His ambassador?

In today's reading, we encounter two powerful kings: one who abuses his power to indulge in sin and another who humbly offers Himself to His people.

Let’s start with David. Notice the repeated word “sent” in 2 Samuel 11 (2 Samuel 11:1, 3, 4, 6, 14, 27). David, the powerful king, authoritatively dispatches people to do his bidding—even when it is wrong. He not only commits adultery but murder. God, intimately aware of the king's cover-up, sends Nathan to confront David's wrongdoing, declaring, “You are the man!” (2 Samuel 12:7 NKJV). David used his power for evil.

Yet, consider that God sent Jesus to us. During His Triumphal Entry, King Jesus grieves over the Jews' failure to recognize Him as the Prince of Peace (Luke 19:42). Despite His immense power, Jesus humbly rode into Jerusalem, offering peace to His people.

I pray that you don’t abuse the power and authority entrusted to you by sinning and attempting to conceal it. Instead, today, may you demonstrate humility, following the example of Jesus.

Employment Point: Represent Jesus well, who sends you to a lost world.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
