Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 113 OF 365

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above (James 1:17 NKJV).

Are you humbled by God’s kindness to you?

In today's reading, we witness two individuals demonstrating remarkable generosity for the sake of their Lord, and God blesses them in return.

Firstly, David's deep reverence for God prompts him to express his desire to build a temple, but God promises him an eternal house, throne, and kingdom instead (2 Samuel 7:12–16). This promise is fulfilled by Jesus, who is David’s greatest descendant (Luke 1:30–33). David's humble response to God's favor is noteworthy: “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?” (2 Samuel 7:18 NKJV).

Secondly, Zacchaeus, despised by his community, humbles himself before Jesus, demonstrating genuine repentance by giving large sums of money to those he has wronged and to the poor (Luke 19:9–10). Jesus blesses him, saying, “Today salvation has come to this house... for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:9–10 NKJV).

Employment Point: Humbly receive God’s gifts to you and remain thankful.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
