Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year TwoSample

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition (1 Corinthians 10:11 NKJV).
Do you love drawing attention to yourself?
In today's passage, we witness Absalom's downfall, which ironically stemmed from his pride in his thick hair. His vanity and desire for attention became his undoing. Absalom's annual haircuts, each yielding around five pounds of hair, became a spectacle (2 Samuel 14:26). Little did he know that this very hair, symbolizing his pride, would lead to his demise.
The Bible warns, "pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18 NKJV). Absalom, caught in a tree by his hair while fleeing soldiers, meets his end (2 Samuel 18:9, 14–15). Despite his desire for followers, he finds himself surrounded by adversaries in death (2 Samuel 18:15).
Employment Point: Live humbly by drawing attention to the Lord, and not self.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
