Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 118 OF 365

He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him (John 1:11 NKJV).

What consequences did the Jews experience for rejecting Jesus?

In today's reading, we confront the consequences of rejecting Jesus. In Luke 21:20–24, Jesus foretells the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. He prophesies, "And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled" (Luke 21:24 NKJV). The historian Josephus records that an estimated 1.1 million Jewish people lost their lives when Rome sieged Jerusalem in 70 A.D.

Turning away from the Savior yields nothing good, neither in the present nor in the future. The rejection of Jesus allows Gentile dominion over Israel until His Second Coming, known as "the times of the Gentiles."

Let's place our trust in Jesus, who assures us, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away" (Luke 21:33 NKJV). Never turn your eyes and hearts away from Jesus.

Employment Point: Submit to Jesus to have His future blessing.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
