Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 116 OF 365

They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him (Titus 1:16 NKJV).

Are you discerning?

In today’s Old Testament reading, Absalom emerges as a hypocrite, putting the praise of men over obedience to God. While faking concern for the people, he manipulates them to rebel against his father, David. Unlike David's private indiscretions, Absalom's public violation by taking his father's concubines displays his love for attention, ultimately leading to this hypocrite’s swift downfall.

In the New Testament, Jesus issues a warning against hypocrites who seek human approval over God's favor. He cautions His disciples to beware of the scribes, who crave recognition and honor in public settings (Luke 20:45-46). This warning underscores the importance of discerning people's character through their deeds rather than mere words.

Dear brothers and sisters, I urge you, today, to guard against the trap of hypocrisy. Beware of following hypocrites. Instead, strive to be authentic and discerning in your Christian walk!

Employment Point: Don’t follow those who practice a double standard in life.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
