Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 119 OF 365

For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you (John 13:15 NKJV).

Do you want to be great for Jesus?

In today's reading, Jesus' disciples vie for greatness. Luke recounts, "Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest" (Luke 22:24 NKJV). While Jesus doesn't rebuke their desire for greatness, He redirects their focus from worldly ambition to heavenly humility. He encourages them to transition from self-serving attitudes to becoming servants of all.

Jesus compares their earthly mindset with that of the Gentile rulers, who seek authority and recognition. He instructs, "But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves" (Luke 22:26 NKJV).

This servant leadership model is what Jesus expects from His followers. Today, may you copy Jesus' example by serving others, thus achieving greatness in the Kingdom.

Employment Point: Imitate Jesus for future greatness by being the slave of all.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
