Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 112 OF 365

Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out (Proverbs 20:5 NKJV).

Do you adequately show the lost their need to be saved?

Wise counselors and faithful evangelists understand a crucial concept: recognizing one's sin is essential before coming to Jesus. Despite appearing ready for salvation, the rich young ruler is challenged by Jesus to acknowledge his self-righteousness and embrace God’s righteousness. Jesus confronts him with certain commandments to reveal his need for spiritual transformation. He then exposes the man's attachment to material wealth, demonstrating his failure to fully keep the Law (Luke 18:22).

As a Christian, do you use the Law to highlight mankind’s inability to perfectly keep it? We need to share the message, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23 NKJV). Once the person acknowledges their sin, you can introduce them to Christ, who fulfilled the Law on their behalf. This encounter may lead them to react like the rich young ruler, walking away saddened, or hopefully toward the person guiding them to place their faith in Christ.

Employment Point: Show the lost their sin through the Law, and then give the gospel.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
