Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 111 OF 365

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord (Romans 12:19 NKJV).

How long until the Lord rights the wrongs you’ve experienced?

In today's reading, Jesus shares a parable about persistent prayer. He tells of a widow who has been wronged and wants justice! She repeatedly approaches an unjust judge, unfazed by his indifference to justice or God. Despite his initial resistance, the judge eventually relents, fearing the widow's persistent appeals. Jesus uses this imagery, likening the widow's tenacity to boxing jabs, symbolizing her relentless petitions.

Jesus contrasts this with God's character, assuring that He will indeed avenge His chosen ones who cry out to Him day and night (Luke 18:7). The message is clear: persevere in prayer! Even in the face of delay, God will eventually bring justice. Our faith in Him should remain steadfast, especially during times of trouble. Don’t be discouraged because He hears your prayers and will act at the perfect time!

Employment Point: Petition God faithfully to enact justice when you’ve been wronged.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
