Hebrews Part 3: Sleepy Christianity

DAY 6 OF 18

Is Your Worship Tied to a Location or Jesus?

Worship has always needed a place—a space where Heaven touches earth and sinners meet with a holy God. In the Old Testament, that place was the Tabernacle: a portable sanctuary where God’s people assembled as His presence moved with them. Much like today’s mobile churches or worship pop-ups, the Tabernacle reminded Israel that even in transition, God was near, available, and speaking. But it was just a shadow of something greater.

Before the Temple, the Tabernacle served as the central place of worship. Designed for mobility, it went wherever God’s people went. Scripture refers to it as the “tent,” “holy place,” “dwelling place,” and “house of the Lord”—all pointing to its role as a sacred space where God and man could meet. (1)

Because sin separated us from God, the Tabernacle functioned as a “thin place”—a sacred intersection of Heaven and earth. But it was temporary by design, preparing the way for something far better.

That something is actually someone—Jesus Christ. He’s our Great High Priest, perfect sacrifice, and eternal sanctuary. As Hebrews 8:5 (ESV) says, the Tabernacle was “a copy and shadow of the heavenly things.” Now, as Hebrews 9:11 (ESV) declares, Jesus has come “through the greater and more perfect tent... not of this creation.”

The Tabernacle pointed forward to Jesus—the true meeting place between God and man. He is our access, our worship, and our unshakable hope.

So the real question isn’t where you worship, but who makes it possible.

Is your worship portable or personal?
