A Book Of Remembrance: Wisdom From The AgesSample

“I shall allow no man to belittle my soul by making me hate him.”
-Booker T. Washington-
Booker T. Washington was a powerful man, with a powerful message. His quote today is full of wisdom that we need to learn from if we want to live lives of peace. When we hate someone, we do a disservice to ourselves. Unresolved hatred always results in a debilitating bitterness that eats away at us like a cancer. The ironic part is, this hatred usually has no effect on the object of it, but only on the one who is harboring it towards another.
Today’s Bible verse shows how to combat any hatred we may feel towards another, and how to have peace in the process! When we pray for our enemies we will automatically build a compassion for them. That’s one of the greatest aspects of prayer. We will begin to understand our perceived enemies and see things through their eyes. Perhaps their trials are worse than ours!
So, for today, let us step out of ourselves and think of the next man before our own needs. Let us build compassion towards others through fervent, effectual prayer. (James 5:16) Let us humble ourselves before God, esteem others more than ourselves, and receive the unquenchable peace of the Living God.
