Dwight Eisenhower possessed the ability to be a great leader throughout the ravages of World War II and beyond, because he held tremendous knowledge, such as what we see in today’s quote. He knew that peace could only come with justice, and vice-versa.

Today’s Bible verse contains the same truth, but it is slightly more difficult to see at face value. We must look to other verses to get to the root of the matter. Yes, Jesus Christ is surely the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), but He has also been appointed to be our Judge by our Heavenly Father! (John 5:22) 

As we can see from our verse today, Jesus has never changed! He has always exhibited both sides of the proverbial coin, and always will. In order to have peace, there has to be judgment laid down upon all sin, because sin is the transgression of God’s law of life! (1 John 3:4) You can’t have peace when death is present, and the wages of sin IS death. Jesus came to give us abundant life, and He gave us that life by dying on the cross.

So, for today, let us meditate not only on God’s mercy, but also on His justice. Let us reflect on how much sin hurts Him and our Father. It hurt them so much, it cost the blood of Jesus to wash away the judgment that sin brings upon us. Let us not linger in our sins any longer, but flee with haste from the temptations that so easily beset us. Let us rejoice in His mercy, be humbled by his justice, and sing praises to the Eternal Prince of Peace.
