Today’s quote always brings a smile of laughter to my face. I can’t help but picture a man standing at the base of a tree, staring up at the fruit on its branches, and just waiting for it to fall into his lap. Sounds pretty silly, doesn’t it? If we see something we want in life, we can’t just expect it to fall into our possession, we have to go after it and GET it! 

Today’s Bible verse has a strikingly similar message, but one of much greater importance. If we just listen to or read God’s word, without doing what it says, we are deceiving ourselves! We are not receiving the “fruit” of God’s promises! James goes on to say that if we look into the word deeply, and DO what it says, we will be BLESSED in whatever we do! (James 1:23-25) We serve a loving God who wants the best for us. He gave us His word not to entertain us with his eloquence, but to instruct us in the ways of salvation!

So, for today, let us look deeply into God’s instructions in righteousness. Let us join the ranks of King David and sing with him, “Oh how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.” (Psalm 119:97) Let us put God’s word to action in our lives, and receive the promises of blessings that will come from our obedience.
