A Book Of Remembrance: Wisdom From The AgesSample

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson-
Ralph Waldo Emerson saw the wisdom in paying attention to what truly matters, namely, our character. Our character is what truly defines us. It is not the mistakes that we have made in the past, the obstacles we have overcome, or even our previous successes that make us who we are. In relation to this, just because we may have lofty plans for the future, does not automatically make these plans a reality.
Our character is what defines who we are, what we do, what we say, and what we believe. At least it should anyway. If we remain consistent in character, we need not fear what the future may hold, nor should we be troubled by our past failures. As today’s Bible verse shows, it is God’s spirit which should define our character, which in turn defines us. His spirit is not one of timidity, it is of overcoming power! When God places His spirit in us, we are Eternal just like Him! This should motivate us to be characterized by fearlessness, out-going love, and a lifestyle of moderation in all things.
So, for today, let us stir up the spirit of God and unleash the power that dwells inside us. (2 Timothy 1:6) Let us concentrate on God’s character, which truly defines us. Let us walk worthy of our calling with praise, prayer, and proof-by-action! Let us put fear to death, and sow seeds of life-giving power in all we do in His great name.
