Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

And in that day the Lord God of hosts called for weeping and for mourning, for baldness and for girding with sackcloth (Isaiah 22:12).
Do you repent of your sin during a crisis?
King Sennacherib of Assyria laid a siege against Jerusalem in 701 BC. Perhaps Isaiah 22 refers to this incident (2 Kings 18-19). If so, God supernaturally thwarted the enemy by striking many of their soldiers, which caused the army to depart from Jerusalem. The Lord used the situation not only to display His vast power, but also to drive His children to repent of their vast sins. Isaiah records their pathetic response "But instead, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating meat and drinking wine: 'Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!'" (Isaiah 22:13). Sadly, the children of Israel celebrated their physical deliverance, but didn't turn from their sin.
Employment Point: Depend upon God in a crisis, while repenting of any known sin.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
