Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD! (Isaiah 31:1).
Whom do you trust in a crisis?
When the Assyrians under the leadership of Sennacherib threatened the southern kingdom of Judah, some Israelites turned to Egypt for help. God put this pressure on His people so that they might repent of their sin and rely solely upon Him. Isaiah writes, "Return to Him against whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted. For in that day every man shall throw away his idols of silver and his idols of gold" (Isaiah 31:6-7). Ultimately, the victory over the enemy comes from the Lord. The Lord predicts the Assyrians demise and their fleeing from Judah (Isaiah 31:8).
Employment Point: Turn to the Lord and rely upon His strength during a crisis.
About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
