When You Run the Wrong Way

Sometimes it’s not that life happened to us … Sometimes it’s that we ran from what God asked us to do.

That’s Jonah’s story.

God gave him a clear direction—but Jonah chose the opposite. Not a small detour… the complete opposite direction. And just like that, his story begins to look like rebellion, failure, and distance from God. It’s easy to read his story and think, “How could he do that?” But if we’re honest, we’ve all had moments where we resisted what we knew God was leading us toward.

But here’s what’s powerful—God didn’t walk away from Jonah. Instead, God stepped into the story.

• A storm was sent. Not to destroy him—but to stop him.
• A fish was prepared. Not to punish him—but to preserve him.

What looked like everything falling apart was actually God intervening with mercy. Even the interruption was grace.

That’s the nature of His love. God will interrupt your wrong direction to lead you back to the right one.

And here’s the truth we hold onto: God flips the script.

• Even when you’re the one who ran.
• Even when you knew better.
• Even when your choices led you here.

God doesn’t cancel your story—He redirects it.

So if you find yourself off-course today, don’t assume you’ve gone too far or done too much. The storm might not be against you. It might be God’s way of using what was set up against you to get your attention because He loves you too much to let you keep running. And in His grace… He’s already working to turn you around. It’s when He “Flips the Script” of your expected outcome!

Prayer:

Lord, open my eyes to see the promise in the plan. I choose to stop steering the boat and let You direct my path. I’m so thankful that You are a God of restoration, not cancellation. Thank You for the storm that pushes me in the right direction in a way I could never do on my own. I listen and obey Your voice, which tells me to turn to the right or to the left. In Jesus' name, amen.
