DAY 5 OF 20

If we’re honest, sometimes a part of our faith that feels difficult or challenging is evangelism. That feeling can come from all kinds of places, but one of the biggest reasons it feels so tense in today’s world is because topics like faith can be polarizing. Talking about what you believe with someone who believes something else, or even someone who believes nothing at all, feels like the setup for conflict, debate, or worse. What if you say something that sets them off? What if they say something that offends you in response? What if you push them away and the relationship suffers? What if they ask a question you don’t know how to answer?

That list of “what if” questions can feel so long that it might hold you back from ever giving sharing your faith a shot. If it’s only going to lead to conflict, offense, or worse, why even bother? Here, Jesus’ words in John can be so helpful. We can’t control the outcome. We don’t know what the response will be. We really don’t know what the conversation holds at all! But what we do know is that, when we’re speaking in love, we’re doing exactly what Jesus calls us to do, and that will never be a bad idea.

Talk to someone this week about what it might look like to incorporate the love of Christ in conversations about your faith. How can you lead with love?

About this Plan

This Is Why

We’ve all had those experiences that are so real and impactful to us that we want other people to know about them, too. More than just telling the people in our lives about it, we want them to feel it, to get it, to care about it, and even experience it the way we do. And for followers of Jesus, our faith is a message of hope we simply can’t keep to ourselves. In this devotional, we’re going to look at what it means to share the gospel of Jesus with the world around us.
