This Is Why

DAY 19 OF 20

Have you ever had an experience where someone’s words and actions didn’t align? Maybe it was something simple, like saying they loved a certain food but refusing to eat it when you served it for dinner. Or maybe it was more complex, like saying they would show up for a big event in your life, but ultimately ghosting without an explanation. Whatever the case, when something like that happens, it makes you start to wonder: Can I trust that they’ll actually live the way they say they will?

As Christians, this question should matter a lot to us. Not because we live by the opinions of others, but because we recognize that everything we do—words and actions alike—are a representation of our beliefs. When we say we believe in Jesus, but our actions don’t align with those words, then we’re nothing more than noise. We’re not living out those words in actions. We’re not backing them up with the way we live. Sharing our faith with our words is great, but if we don’t support those words with actions, our words sound like little more than clanging cymbals to the world. If we want to witness with our lives, we have to live out the words we proclaim.

What words do you say often about your faith? What do you claim to believe? How can you live out those words of faith in action this week?

About this Plan

This Is Why

We’ve all had those experiences that are so real and impactful to us that we want other people to know about them, too. More than just telling the people in our lives about it, we want them to feel it, to get it, to care about it, and even experience it the way we do. And for followers of Jesus, our faith is a message of hope we simply can’t keep to ourselves. In this devotional, we’re going to look at what it means to share the gospel of Jesus with the world around us.
