Provision, Protection, Power

DAY 5 OF 10

God Is Your Protector.

The Lord is revealed multiple times in Scripture as a Protector. He is a Rock, Fortress, Refuge, Shield, Hiding Place, Strong Tower, Shepherd, and Father. As a Protector, God safeguards, covers, and defends His children from evil, danger, harm, and destruction.

The Lord is a merciful and compassionate God who loves and provides. Yet we must never forget that, as the Great Shepherd, He also protects His sheep from deception, attacks, and defeat in life.

The presence of God makes the difference in our lives for protection. Even in the trouble we face in this fallen world, we can take heart and know that Jesus has overcome the world and its troubles (John 16:33). Even when life doesn’t make sense, the presence of God protects us and keeps us calm and at peace through every challenge.

When Jesus told the disciples that they needed to cross the Sea of Galilee, they all entered the boat to go across the sea. Suddenly, a violent storm arose. The wind whipped, the rain fell, and waves crashed into the boat. They feared for their lives!

Jesus, in the midst of it all, was sleeping—His head resting on a pillow. The disciples woke Him, crying, “Don’t You care that we’re perishing?”

They missed the point. Jesus was there. The presence of Almighty God was in their midst. They could have trusted Him, not only because of His word, but because of His presence. They had the wrong perspective—they felt Jesus didn’t care, when in truth, He was demonstrating peace in the Father’s will and presence. He slept, not because He didn’t care, but because everything was under the Father’s authority. Even in the storm, all was well.

Finally, Jesus calmed the wind, rain, and waves by His authoritative power. He provided protection in the storm and deliverance from it.

Jesus taught the disciples and lived as an example to show this to you today: acknowledge and trust in the protecting presence of God who is with you right now. He is your great Protector today. He will never leave you and will do the miraculous as your Protector.

Prayer:
“Jesus, help me to rest in the Father’s protection like you did in the storm. May I trust in you for protection in the storm and deliverance out of the storm. Today, I rest in you. Amen.”
