Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 86 OF 365

So he left all, rose up, and followed Him (Luke 5:28 NKJV).

Do you believe that Jesus can change the hearts of wealthy sinners?

In today’s reading, Jesus encounters Levi, also known as Matthew, a wealthy tax collector, and Jesus simply says, "Follow Me." In response, Matthew leaves everything behind and follows Jesus wholeheartedly. This act of complete surrender demonstrates that with God, all things are possible.

Also, after his decision to follow Jesus, Matthew hosts a great feast at his own house, inviting many tax collectors and others to join. Who knows how many of his friends were saved during this feast? As a Christian, you have benefited from reading the words Matthew wrote in his gospel.

As we look at the life of Matthew, we see his generosity and hospitality reflect his newfound commitment to Jesus and his desire to share the good news with others. Let Matthew's example inspire you to trust Jesus to reach even the wealthiest individuals with His message of salvation.

Employment Point: Trust Jesus to reach the rich.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
