Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 79 OF 365

Be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might (Ephesians 6:10 NKJV).

From whence comes your strength?

In Joshua's journey, God repeatedly urges him to "be strong" as he faces challenges (Joshua 1:6, 7, 9). Where does this strength come from? Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) provides the answer: "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." Joshua understands the importance of feeding on God's Word and obeying it. God promised that it would help him carry out his mission of conquering the promised land.

Now, based on our New Testament reading, Elizabeth and Zacharias, parents of John the Baptist, illustrate the benefits of walking in obedience to God. As they faithfully walk with Him, their son John grows and becomes strong in spirit, following their godly example (Luke 1:80). Through their obedience, they pave the way for John to walk in wisdom and strength.

Employment Point: Stay strong by feeding on God’s Word and walking by faith.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
